Amber Ducky Isopod

To raise isopods, you will need a terrarium or enclosure, a substrate for them to burrow and forage in, and a source of food and moisture.

  1. Set up the enclosure: Use a clear plastic container with a lid, such as a shoe box or a plastic container with a locking lid. Drill small holes in the lid for ventilation.
  2. Choose a substrate: Use a mixture of coconut fiber and peat moss, or a commercial soil specifically designed for isopods.
  3. Add moisture: Mist the substrate with water until it is slightly damp, but not wet. Isopods need a high humidity environment to survive.
  4. Add food: Provide a source of food such as fresh fruits and vegetables, or a commercial isopod food.
  5. Keep the enclosure in a warm place: Isopods prefer temperatures between 68-80°F (20-27°C), so make sure to place the enclosure in a warm room or use a heat lamp if necessary.
  6. Monitor the enclosure: Keep an eye on the enclosure to make sure the humidity, temperature and food are all appropriate for the isopods.
  7. Cleaning: Clean the enclosure every month by removing feces and uneaten food, and misting the substrate with water.
